Founded in 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic by multimedia artist Igi Lola Ayedun, HOA is a conceptual artwork influenced by Situationist principles that proposes the disruption of the market and contemporary art institutions through a continuous program of interventionist action-articulation that confronts the core of the cultural industry from an Afro-diasporic Latin American decolonial perspective.

Under the principle that from the artist-subject, every action is a performance (Fluxus), the research-active-practice of HOA subverts corporate organizational foundations (Bernadette Corporation) to develop a strategic and poetic dynamic of inclusion, economic redistribution, and structural support aimed at artists from disadvantaged social backgrounds in the post-colonial Brazilian context.

In order to promote art as liberation/subversion (Guy Debord) beyond the artistic object and critical thinking, HOA articulates the expansion of existing economies as sources of derailing the financial cycle of art institutionalization through the right to opacity (Édouard Glissant) + the creation of new independent economies based on mobilizations driven by racial identity settlements and the establishment of spaces for narrative creation + social activity (Malcom X) that enhance collective organizations.

The HOA business model consists of a redesigned revenue sharing scheme, 60% artist - 40% HOA, circular margin distribution, meaning: part of the acquisition revenue is reinvested in the structural support of other artists within the HOA network and implementation of the resale right (Law no. 5,988, Article 39) - resale payment right for the artist - on all acquisitions intermediated by HOA.

HOA is an organization that proposes alignment of the present as a way to transform the future, revising the past (Eshu) in defense of the right to social and political transmission + heredity of ancestry in the communities from the global majority.

From painting to 3D, inside its curatorial core HOA presents a large diversity of mediums in order to construct a multimedia relationship with a new generation of artists, thinkers and curators.

MISSION

As an artist-led organization HOA promotes artistic exchange and experimentation between institutions and market agents. We create opportunities for emerging artists, curators and writers to reflect on what they do, position their practice within relevant decolonial global discourse, create career-defining research and commissions, and network with colleagues. We forge international collaborations to build shared platforms to incubate, to present and to discuss common practices and themes.

Our guiding objectives are to:
- Facilitate mobility of cultural practitioners to develop their practice through a greater access to learning, resources and networks.
- Foster mutual understanding via artistic practice and exchange.
- Strengthen international collaborations and partnerships through organisations, museums, cultural centers, collectives, galleries and networks.
- Develop a method of intellectual empowerment for artists from socially disadvantaged backgrounds through scholarships, financial and curatorial support in order to promote commercial and institutional inclusion in the contemporary art scene in favor of diversity.
- Encourage critical and engaging practices in the decolonial arts and create opportunities for public interaction, dissemination and enjoyment.
- Promote contemporary visual culture, particularly under-represented practices and practitioners, and contributing to international critical discourse through our programmes.
